How Often Should I Weigh In?
By Fit3 Head Coach Tina Van Horn
I have already been on the scale this morning. And just out of curiosity, I will probably weigh myself again after my workout. One thing that I have learned by weighing myself frequently is that stepping on the scale is a bit like playing a slot machine. You watch the numbers change, not knowing exactly where they are actually going to stop.
Weight Fluctuations
Daily weight fluctuations are completely normal. I have about a 10 lb. "happy" range. Of course, I prefer to be on the lower end of that range, but I don't get too concerned if I am at the upper end. However, in the past few weeks, I have fluctuated outside of that range. To be perfectly honest, I have been a little too nice to myself with the flex calories. It's not just the scale, though. Some of my clothes are feeling a bit clingy and the extra pounds may explain why I'm struggling to run my usual pace.
Know Your Goals
Regardless of what number the scale settles on today, nothing about my plan for today is going to change. I know what my goals are and what I need to work on. If I want to achieve them, I will work towards them.
I am using all three elements of Fit3 to get me where I want to be. I am even playing around with the time of day that I take my Fit3 shakes to help me get through the afternoon bewitching hour when the peanut butter and cereal are beckoning me!
How Often Should You Weigh In?
To help keep me motivated and accountable, I will be weighing in every day. Now that is not for everyone. For some of you, daily weight checks are just a little too much information and could cause you extra daily stress. So how often should you weigh? You have to know that I am not going to give you a definite answer. This is Fit3 and it is about finding what works for YOU! Try whatever keeps you on track for your goals and keeps you in a healthy mental space. Whether that’s daily, weekly or sporadically, figure out what works for YOU and your Fit3 journey!
There are other barometers by which we can measure our progress on this fitness journey, so don't gamble all of your confidence on the scale being in your favor on any given day. Non-scale victories are just as important and exciting so credit yourself for them! All you have to do is stay motivated, keep your eye on your goal and find what helps you do that.
